Tip of the Month – April 2018

Identity theft is a topic on everyone’s minds.  With an 8% increase in identity theft victims last year, it is something everyone worries about.

However, you can take a simple step to protect your identity while getting healthy.  Protect your medical information by only providing private information, including your member ID number, to people you call directly.  Thieves can mimic phone numbers on caller ID, so if you receive a phone call, especially an unexpected call, advise the caller you will call that company back, whether it’s the insurance company or doctor’s office.  Then, dial the number you have on their official documents and confirm that the call was authentic before providing any details.
