Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) is the legal term for when a person operates a vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 % or above, and measures how physically impaired that person is while driving. It is a more serious charge than a DUI which indicates a lower degree of impairment, although in some states a DUI and DWI are interchangeable. In the majority of states, a first DWI will result in an automatic suspension of the driver’s license.
